GOOD BRASS VS. BAD BRASS

Brass is back in a big way, but not all brass is created equal.  The brass that was popular in the 80′s and 90′s is not the brass you want in your home today.  That brass was super shiny, super yellowy, and super ugly.  Today’s brass has more of an antiqued finish.  I’m all over this trend and I hope it sticks around for awhile.  When done right, brass accents add a warmth and an elegance that other finishes just can’t compete with.

Before I show you all the beautiful brass that’s out there today, let’s look at brass gone wrong…way wrong.

Don’t feel bad if you still have some of this tacky brass lingering around your home.  You’re not alone…I have some too (check it out here).  If you’re in the mood for a quick DIY project, there are a ton of tutorials out there on how to makeover tacky brass.  You could spray paint it, you could remove the brass finish using metal polish like I did with my lamps, or you could age your brass giving it an antique look.  If you’re not big on do-it-yourself projects then just trade in that old tacky brass for beautiful, new classy brass.

Now this is brass done right!
